Standard Poker Chip Color Values

Full Poker Chip Colors and Standard Values White, $1. Yellow, $2 (rarely used). Purple, $500. Yellow, $1000 (sometimes burgundy or gray). Light Blue, $2000. Brown, $5000. To color up is to exchange a large number of poker chips for a smaller number of chips of a higher denomination, but of course keeping the total value of the chipstack the same. This is typically done when a player has had a good session and has won a lot of chips at a table. The number of chips in front of the player may be uncomfortably, or even unmanageably, large.

As a note to those buying a set for the first time, ask to take the tiles out of the plastic and inspect the sides for paint. Luckily mine all cleaned up nicely in about a half hour with some paint thinner and then a good wash.
As a bonus, I noticed that the paint thinner applied to a cloth and then rubbed carefully on the face really cleans up the edge details of tiles with a little too much paint in the markings!
One question I have, what are the standard values of the chips that come with the sets? I have only 8 of each of red, yellow, and green chips (no way that's enough for a 4 player game, I don't care what denominations you use). But is there a standard?
I have some chips that I will use instead (with printed faces and denominations on them if necessary to keep them straight), but I'd like to make them consistent with others who already play.
As a humorous note, my rule booklet is woefully under translated and completely useless in deciphering my issue. For that matter, it mentions using the sticks that come with some sets, and says nothing about chips.
Any help would be appreciated.
